Is Payroll Outsourcing Suitable for Your Business? ? 5 important ...

The payroll function is really a task every business performs, whether it be a small or a mid-sized company. Smaller businesses that conserve a solid, predictable revenue stream, may manage their books internally with assistance from an independent accountant. The accountant is devoted to processing payroll for a small group of staff members, but is that where your accountant?s time is best spent? There are almost certainly other functions that need accounting level expertise, especially as the company grows.

When you acquire new clients and increase business, only one independent accountant might not be enough to manage your accounting and book keeping functions, and you?ll need to hire additional staff to handle the improved workload.

Outsourcing your payroll function can alleviate some of this increased workload while giving the benefits listed below:
Cost Benefits: A separate in-house payroll department can be quite expensive to a small company, since it requires skilled, experienced, manpower to process the payroll, maintain accurate records for a number of withholdings, and manage timely cash disbursements. By outsourcing the payroll function, you get rid of the should employ a permanent employee in order to meet these duties, while still having access to the expertise required.

Reliability: Payroll errors are taken very seriously by authorities. No matter previous, impressive financial documentation, payroll errors can escalate into significant issues, creating long lasting trouble for your organization. Whenever you outsource your payroll function, this responsibility shifts to the vendor to make certain accurate, error free payroll processing.

Optimized Manpower: By outsourcing the payroll function, your in-house employees are liberal to give attention to other functions for critical to your customer relationships and business development. You can even save on salaries that could are already distributed to work with a permanent employee with payroll expertise or reallocate funds that might have been completely earmarked with an accountant to carry out these tasks with other more meaningful accounting functions.

Timely Payroll: An in-house payroll department is additionally responsible for tracking staff changes and new employee hires, in addition to the associated paperwork. Practicing these tasks diminishes in-house staff productivity because of significant administrative follow-up. However, outsourcing the payroll function assigns these duties to the vendor. A payroll provider takes into consideration staff changes as well as other alterations in withholdings as a result, factoring these into planning to ensure that payroll processing occurs on-time.

Increased Security: When payroll is managed in-house, entrepreneurs must closely monitor the processing or have total confidence and assurance that the employee performing this function is trustworthy and not capable of fraud. By outsourcing the payroll, this burden is positioned around the payroll processing provider. Being a company owner, it will save you time and savings otherwise allocated to monitoring employees in charge of this function.

Mahindra XUV500 earns four-star ANCAP safety rating | Car Advice

The all-new Mahindra XUV500 seven-seater has earned a four-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) despite a number of disappointing measurements in the local crash test.

The Indian-built mid-sized SUV scored 26 points out of 37 in the crash test, including 10 out of 16 in the frontal offset crash test and the default 16 out of 16 that is awarded to all SUVs in the side impact component.

ANCAP?s report explains the XUV500?s passenger compartment ?lost structural integrity? in the frontal test, and says ?protection from serious leg injury was poor for the driver due to excessive rearward movement of the brake pedal?.

The crash test caused a rupture in the fuel line ? apparently caused by contact with the driveshaft ? while the exhaust pipe contacted the fuel tank but did not cause a puncture.

The test also caused the tailgate to open, although Mahindra has since developed a software upgrade to eliminated the problem.

The Mahindra XUV500 will be fitted with six airbags and electronic stability control as standard when it goes on sale in Australia later this month.

The four-star result puts Mahindra Australia?s first passenger vehicle on par with a number of other SUVs from better-established brands, including the Jeep Compass and Grand Cherokee and the Mini Countryman.

The rating also matches that awarded to the Chinese-built Great Wall X200/X240, which is destined to be one of the XUV500?s key competitors.

The four-star ANCAP rating is the best crash test score achieved by the Indian manufacturer, previously earning two stars for the Pik-Up dual-cab ute in 2008 and 2011 and three stars for the upgraded model earlier this year.

The Mahindra XUV500 remains long way off the pace of the safest medium SUVs in the country, however, with the Volvo XC60 (36.53 points), Audi Q5 (35.21) and the Kia Sportage (35.1) achieving the most impressive scores to date.

ANCAP also announced the Mazda CX-5, BMW 3-Series and Honda Civic hatch have been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating on the back of strong performances in crash tests conducted by overseas affiliate Euro NCAP.

NCAA Opens Door to Text Messaging for Recruiting

By guest blogger Mike Bock

Text messaging is soon to become a key recruiting tool for NCAA Division I and II men's college basketball coaches, opening the door for other sports in those divisions to follow the rule change if it works.

But some experts are worried that loosening the rules for electronic contact between coaches and high school athletes could lead to abuses by some college sports programs.

Starting June 15, coaches will be able to send unlimited text messages to high school athletes they are recruiting who have finished their sophomore year, Sports Illustrated.com reported. The NCAA board approved the decision to deregulate phone and text message contact between high school students and coaching staff in January.

Though high school athletes are currently allowed to initiate text messaging with college coaches in any sport, the practice of coaches texting athletes for recruiting purposes has been banned for all NCAA sports since 2007. The Toledo Blade recently reported:

"Text messages were outlawed by the NCAA five years ago amid concerns of excessive use and athletes accruing astronomical charges. Advancement in technology and the rise of unlimited text plans create an atmosphere to revisit the issue, with men's basketball set to be the guinea pig. No other sports have adopted the reform, although women's coaches could follow by next year."

Before the decision to deregulate contact was made in January, the NCAA limited contact between Division I coaches and recruits to one phone call per month, and penalized athletics programs for violations. One of the more famous examples is Kelvin Sampson, a coach who (with his staff) was sanctioned by NCAA and university officials for making more than 550 impermissible phone calls to recruits while at the University of Oklahoma and Indiana University from 2003-2007.

Social media contact between high school athletes and coaches isn't quite as defined. Private messages between athletes and Division I coaches are permissible, but public messages (such as wall posts on Facebook) are considered a secondary violation of NCAA recruiting rules. However, Division III sports programs, which have allowed unlimited texting as a recruiting tool since January, do not allow coaches to contact athletes via social media.

While supporters of the change say increased contact between students and coaches could build healthier, more successful relationships, opponents are concerned that highly-recruited athletes will be distracted by hundreds of calls and texts from potential coaches. Either way, the recruiting landscape is in for a change, says SportsIllustrated.com:

"Starting June 15...there won't be any restrictions on calls or text messages to prospects completing their sophomore seasons. That could lead to chaos, particularly in the days immediately following the change."

"Some people may look at it like, 'I don't want to be the school that doesn't call him three times in a day,'" Iowa assistant coach Andrew Francis told SportsIllustrated.com. "Some schools may think it's a great idea to say, 'Well, we've got to get this guy on the phone at least three times a day and let him know we're thinking about him.' That's a bit much, in my opinion, but some kids may love it. But after a while, it wears on you."

Building Your Online Presence With Social Networking | Internet ...

?

By Javier Snover

If you own a local business you can learn a lot about the significance of utilizing social media to let people know who you are and what you have to offer. I have been helping local businesses to build their online presence, boost their brand, and elevate their overall exposure for several years now. Social media has made this process one that can even be lots of fun.

First of all, Google your name and the name of your business to find out what?s there. Most of what we do is indexed by Google these days, so it?s necessary to understand where you stand presently.

Be sure to use quotation marks around the words so that you only receive results based on the exact name you have searched. For example, my search is for ?connie ragen green? on Google so that I don?t get any results for other women named Connie or anything that is ?green?. Print out page one or two to save in a file.

Social networking tends to rank very remarkably with Google, so if you have already set up accounts on Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn they will usually show on your first page. Go on and click on whatever shows up so you?ll have a better idea of what somebody else will see if they do a search for you.

The most significant technique I?ll share with you is to be certain that you?re logos your business aside from your self. This means that your business name is more essential than your own with regards to utilizing social media for visibility. Let us discuss some examples of this.

Companies such as Ford, Pepsi, and even apparel stores like Forever 21 are now using Facebook pages to build their business in a big way, but local businesses are doing even better with their social media efforts. You can do exactly the same thing for your business.

On Facebook, begin a personal account under your own identity and then set up a Fan Page for your enterprise. This is really a quite simple procedure to adhere from your home page.

Make certain to have some photos of your enterprise and of your emblem to utilize on your web page. Incorporate as much details as you can in order that site visitors will have the priviledge to get in touch with you easily. Dictate your web page often to answer inquiries and deal with concerns.

Twitter is creating a large comeback after dropping reputation last year. Your name is limited to fifteen characters, so attempt utilizing the identity or acronym for your own town facing your industry, for example @SanDiegoDentist or @AustinPlumber.

Begin following other local businesses and ask all of them to follow you. Share information about how you can possibly help some others in your society. If you?d like to use social media the appropriate way, go to my website to acquire more information: Click here

Student loan debt soars 275% over past decade | Top iPad Finance ...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) ? Student loans have more than tripled over the past decade, according to new data from the Federal Reserve.

Student loan debt hit $ 904 billion in the first quarter of 2012, up from $ 241 billion a decade ago, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York quarterly household debt report. That?s up 275% since the same period in 2003.

Students continued heaping on debt throughout the economic downturn, even as Americans cut back on other forms of credit, such as mortgages and credit cards.

?It remains the only form of consumer debt to substantially increase since the peak of household debt in late 2008,? said Donghoon Lee, senior economist at the NY Fed.

Since that peak, student loan debt has shot up $ 293 billion, while other debts fell a combined $ 1.53 trillion. Student loans have been the second highest form of consumer debt since the second quarter of 2010, behind mortgages.

Americans are also increasingly falling behind on their student loans. Long-term delinquency rates now stand at 8.69%, up from 6.13% a decade ago.

That?s higher than the delinquency rates of mortgages, auto loans and home equity lines of credit, but still down from a peak of 9.17% in the third quarter of 2010.

The explosion in debt has led many to warn of a looming student loan crisis, though other experts say that education debt is manageable.

The median student loan balance is $ 12,800, according to a separate Fed report. About one-quarter of borrowers owe more than $ 28,000 and about 10% owe more than $ 54,000. Only 3.1% owe more than $ 100,000.

Some experts point to an increase in the number of students attending college as one reason why loans are on the rise. It?s common for enrollments to rise during economic downturns.

Borrowing is also up as the cost of college rises. Some 90% of new student lending comes from the federal government, and the amount undergraduates can borrow is generally capped at $ 31,000.

Students are also rushing to take out debt for the coming year. If Congress does not act, interest rates on federal student loans, which were temporarily held at a low 3.4%, will revert back to 6.8% for the 2012-2013 school year starting July 1.

Overall, total consumer debt fell slightly in the first quarter to $ 11.4 trillion, a reduction of $ 100 billion. Aside from student loans, debt levels remained steady or rose slightly.

Mortgage originations increased $ 412 billion in the first quarter of 2012, but are still 17.4% lower than a year ago. Mortgage balances fell $ 81 billion, or 1%, and home equity lines of credit fell $ 15 billion, or 2.4%.

The number of open credit card accounts held steady at 386 million with a total balance of $ 679 billion, both about 22% below the 2008 peak.

Auto loan originations rose 2.1% to $ 72 billion, 43.6% above its first quarter 2009 trough.

Total delinquencies continued their downward slope, with some 9.3% of outstanding debt in delinquency, down from 9.8% a quarter ago.?To top of page

(AP) ? It doesn't matter whom Los Angeles Kings face or where the play.

East. West. High seed. Low seed. The results haven't changed this postseason.

W after W after W.

In becoming their latest victim, the New Jersey Devils quickly learned they are not facing the likes of the Panthers, Flyers or Rangers. Los Angeles is a super team right now and New Jersey needs to pick up its game if it wants any hope of lifting the Stanley Cup.

Anze Kopitar scored a spectacular goal on a breakaway with 11:47 left in overtime Wednesday night and the Kings beat the Devils 2-1 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals.

"It was more of a grinding game tonight," said Kings forward Justin Williams, who set up Kopitar's goal with a chip pass from along the boards in center ice. "We realized that early. It's a team that doesn't give you much and we're not expecting to give an inch either. It's supposed to be hard. Tonight it was."

And as usual Los Angeles won. It has steamrolled to a 13-2 record in the postseason and it is now three wins from hoisting its first Cup since joining the NHL in 1967-68. The Kings have won all nine of their road games in the playoffs, an NHL record. They are now one win shy of tying the NHL record for postseason road victories in a season.

They have won 11 consecutive road playoff games dating to last season.

"I think we've outworked teams," said Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, who made 17 saves. "I think whoever wins this series is going to be the team that outworks the other."

The winning goal was a perfect example. Williams fought Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador and forward Dainius Zubrus along the boards in center ice and managed to chip a pass down the middle toward the Devils' zone.

It was somewhat of a prayer.

"I just threw an area pass," Williams said. "I hoped that he was alone and he was. I've played with him a long time. You just kind of feel it. If it wasn't there, it would have went to nobody. It was a no-lose situation."

Kopitar did everything perfectly on his breakaway. He faked a backhand then put the puck on his forehand and beat a prone Martin Brodeur.

"All losses this time of year are really hard to take because your dream is slowly shutting down," said Brodeur, who faced 25 shots. "We lost one game, there's six games left in this series. They need to win three. We need to win four."

As soon as he rifled the puck into the net, Kopitar raised his hands and banged himself into the boards, facing the crowd off to Brodeur's right.

"To put it past a goaltender like Marty," Kopitar said, "is a good feeling."

The veteran goaltender dejectedly skated off to the locker room as the Kings piled on Kopitar.

This is the third straight series in which the Devils have lost the first game.

"I think it was probably the worst game in the playoffs for us," said Devils leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk, who was limited to one shot. "Maybe we were a little too nervous before the game started, but it's all excuses. We've got to make sure we know what we didn't do right, and be a different team next game."

Game 2 will be played Saturday in New Jersey.

"We'll be better on Saturday night. ... I don't believe we deserved to win tonight, that's the bottom line and that's what happened," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "If we had have won, we would have been sneaking one out."

Fourth-line center Colin Fraser scored in the first period for the Kings, the No. 8 seed in the West who beat the top three teams to get to their first Stanley Cup finals since 1993.

Anton Volchenkov tied it late in the second period for New Jersey, the East's sixth seed. The Devils are now 4-2 in overtime his postseason. Los Angeles is 3-0 after regulation this spring.

The Devils had two great chances to take the lead early in the third, and for a split second it appeared they went ahead with 16:02 to play in regulation when Zach Parise scored off a wild goal-mouth scramble.

While the horns went off and the fans celebrated, referee Dan O'Halloran quickly waved off the goal.

It was reviewed in Toronto and replay clearly showed Parise swept the puck into the net with his hand.

Defenseman Mark Fayne was probably kicking himself six minutes later when he missed a wide-open net from the edge of the crease in what was the Devils' best period of the night.

"We didn't deserve to win tonight, and we didn't," said Devils veteran Patrik Elias, a member of their Cup-winning teams in 2000 and 2003.

The Kings had their chances, too, with Brodeur making two outstanding saves about 10 seconds apart. He made a stacked-pad save on a one-timer by defenseman Drew Doughty from 30 feet after a drop pass from Mike Richards. A turnover seconds later set up forward Dustin Penner for a shot from the left circle.

The Kings came into the finals after steamrolling Vancouver, St. Louis and Phoenix in just 14 games, and they made the Devils look ordinary in the first 40 minutes, holding them to nine shots.

But a fluke goal by Volchenkov tied the game with 1:12 left in the second.

Volchenkov took a shot from the left point that Quick kicked away in front. The puck went airborne, avoided Elias in front and hit off the shoulder of Kings defenseman Slava Voynov before going into the net.

Until then, Fraser's first career playoff goal was looking like the winner.

It was a typical Kings' goal, created off the forecheck ? by the fourth line, no less.

Jordan Nolan checked New Jersey's Andy Greene behind the Devils' net, dug out the puck and found Fraser between the circles for a shot that beat Brodeur 9:56 into the game.

The Kings had chances to extend the lead, but Brodeur, who was the difference in the Devils' victory over the rival Rangers in the conference finals, made three good saves. The best stop by the 40-year-old, three-time Cup winner came on the opening shift of the second, when he blocked Kopitar pointblank on the edge of the crease.

Brodeur also stopped forward Jeff Carter from in close and made a big pad stop on Penner in the second.

The Devils were held without a shot for more than 14 minutes of the period before Parise was credited with one on a short-handed attempt in which the puck rolled off his stick into the crease.

Quick, who wasn't very busy in the first two periods, made his best save with a glove stop on Zubrus from the left circle after a turnover.

However, New Jersey managed to tie it on Volchenkov's strange goal.

The tally came just after Quick got into a tussle with Parise in the crease, and refused to let the Devils' captain get up after he fell as Parise lost his helmet.

"I think we're going to have to find another level," DeBoer said. "We were a little tentative, as was expected for a Stanley Cup final. I think we got better as the game went along, but you have to play 60 minutes against that team.

"We have to be better than we were tonight."

NOTES: Less than a minute into the game, the chant of "BEAT L-A" echoed through the arena. ... Doug O'Neill, the trainer of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I'll Have Another, was on hand, as was New York Giants offensive lineman Chris Snee and New York Jets coach Rex Ryan. ... Volchenkov's goal was his first in the playoffs since Game 3 of the 2007 Stanley Cup finals when he played for Ottawa against Anaheim. ... Kopitar's goal was his second OT winner in the postseason. The other was in 2010 at Vancouver. He has 12 points in the last nine games, including six goals. ...The was the first Game 1 of the finals that went to overtime since 2002, when the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 at Joe Louis Arena on a goal by Ron Francis, just 58 seconds past regulation.
