A moment of confused admiration for Taylor Swift, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter who has managed to infiltrate the Kennedy family in three easy steps: 1) Befriend the family?s 84-year-old matriarch. 2) Date her 18-year-old grandson. 3) Buy an approximately $5 million home right across the street from your boyfriend?s grandmother in Hyannis Port. (Had we known it was that simple, we would be walking on the beach with our barely legal Kennedy beau right now. Sigh.) Despite the open arms with which it seems most of the Kennedy clan has welcomed Swift, however, the Grammy winner was reportedly not welcomed at a family wedding in Boston over the weekend.
And by ?reportedly,? we?re referring to a report made by the bride?s mother, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, to the gossip column of the Boston Herald. According to her, Swift?s boyfriend, Conor Kennedy, who had been invited to the wedding but failed to R.S.V.P., texted an hour before the ceremony asking if the couple could attend. ?I responded with a very clear, ?Please do not come,?? Gifford Kennedy told the paper. ?They came anyway. . . . I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave. It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me.?
The singer?s rep has denied the claim that her client exhibited abominable wedding etiquette, saying, ?There is no truth to that. Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there.? Swift, meanwhile, has been busy celebrating her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ?We Are Never Getting Back Together,? a song presumably not to appear on the playlist at any future Swift-Kennedy nuptials.
